A revista americana Rolling Stone publicou um ranking com as 200 melhores músicas de rock lançadas a partir do ano 2000. A seleção reúne desde clássicos de arenas e hits de pop punk até produções do indie rock underground e faixas de artistas da música pop com forte influência do gênero.

Como a Rolling Stone EUA selecionou as músicas da lista?

Segundo a publicação, a curadoria evitou repetir músicas do mesmo artista para garantir variedade de épocas e subgêneros. Contudo, exceções pontuais foram feitas para nomes centrais do rock, como Radiohead, The Strokes, Foo Fighters e Arctic Monkeys.

A lista traz encontros de gêneros diversos — integrando o rap rock de JAY-Z, a influência punk no pop de Olivia Rodrigo e faixas icônicas do nu-metal, como Linkin Park e System of a Down.

O primeiro lugar do ranking ficou com “Maps”, lançada em 2003 pela banda nova-iorquina Yeah Yeah Yeahs. O pódio do século é completado por “Seven Nation Army” (2003), do The White Stripes, na segunda posição, e “Mr. Brightside” (2004), do The Killers, em terceiro lugar.
